There are times when airfares climb – often at an alarming rate. Airfares apparently will continue to go up as the fuel situation lingers and worsens. There are two ways airline tickets are sold: at published rates and at bulk rates. Bulk-rate fares, which usually are lower than the published rates, are offered mostly by wholesalers and travel agents.
When you buy a published-rate reservation, you must pay the full price at the time. That price is locked in and not affected by the increase. When you make a bulk-rate reservation through certain Hawaii-based travel agents, you make only a deposit.
Choosing a hotel in Hawaii very often comes down to price. Today we talk about hotel price ranges and give examples in the categories of budget moderated deluxe and luxury hotels and Hawaii. We also go over each of our favorites in the categories. We answer a podcast listener question and also have fun talking about our weekend and offer a couple of bar and restaurant suggestions. What also go over packages that have been booked in the last 24 to 48 hours a week will help you get an idea of what people are spending for their Hawaii vacations.
Today we do a follow up story to a Washington Post Article that appeared back in January, a touching story about Robert Cox, his 2 sons and his beloved wife Anita. Before his wife died from cancer in November, the couple had planned to visit Hawaii with their sons. Anita had never been there. To honor her memory, they wanted to come to Hawaii. The newspaper was looking for people who needed advice about planning a Hawaiian Vacation, so Bob contacted the Post and his story was chosen. As a result the Newspaper helped him plan his Hawaiian Vacation from end to end with the help of our Agent Ashely Larson. Ashley helped Bob and the boys take care of the little details only a Hawaii based agent could do, including a helicopter ride in Hilo where some of his wife’s ashes were spread across the Pacific Ocean .
Bob and his boys have also started a foundation in his wife’s memory called LiveLaughLove Foundation. she was a teacher and mentor. It was established in December 2007 to fund innovative school-based projects that creatively "inject interactive fun" into the learning process, and to sponsor school-inspired "LiveLaughLove" special events.
The HawaiiSuperferry is catching on in Hawaii. Nine out of ten riders say it’s likely they will use it again. Almost all of them say they will recommend it to family and friends. But the biggest news for Hawaii Superferry management is that the number of passengers who took the vessel in July was up approximately 40 percent over the June figures. The Superferry travels between Maui and Oahu. It seats 800 passengers and carries about 200 vehicles. Currently, it’s averaging 390 passengers and 99 vehicles per voyage. We also talk about flying in First Class to Hawaii and go over packages that have been booked in the last 24 to 48 hours.
